Louis V. Gerstner Jr. is an American business executive best known for leading IBM's dramatic turnaround as CEO from 1993 to 2002. Before joining IBM, he served as chairman and CEO of RJR Nabisco and held senior positions at American Express. His leadership transformed IBM from a struggling mainframe company into a global services and technology leader, avoiding a breakup many thought inevitable. Gerstner chronicled this remarkable transformation in his bestselling memoir "Who Says Elephants Can't Dance?" He holds degrees from Dartmouth College and Harvard Business School and has served on numerous corporate and nonprofit boards.
