About

Peggy Parish (1927-1988) was an influential American author best known for her beloved children’s book series, *Amelia Bedelia*. Born in Manning, South Carolina, Parish graduated with a degree in English literature from the University of South Carolina. Her career began as a teacher, which greatly inspired her storytelling approach. The *Amelia Bedelia* books, first published in 1963, feature a lovable, literal-minded housekeeper whose humorous misunderstandings have captivated generations of young readers. Parish continued to write numerous successful children's books throughout her career. Her legacy continues through her nephew, Herman Parish, who has written additional books for the series.
