About

Robert Michael Ballantyne was a Scottish author of juvenile fiction who became one of the most popular adventure writers of the Victorian era. Born in Edinburgh in 1825, he spent six years working for the Hudson's Bay Company in remote Canadian territories, experiences that inspired his early novels. His most famous work, "The Coral Island," published in 1858, captivated generations of young readers with its tale of shipwrecked boys on a Pacific island. Ballantyne wrote over 100 books during his prolific career, many featuring themes of exploration, survival, and moral courage. He died in Rome in 1894.
