David Treuer is a celebrated American author, essayist, and academic, known for his insightful explorations of Native American identity and culture. Born in 1970 and raised on the Leech Lake Reservation in Minnesota, Treuer is of Ojibwe descent and often draws on his heritage in his work. He is the author of several acclaimed novels, including "Prudence" and "The Translation of Dr. Apelles," as well as the non-fiction work "The Heartbeat of Wounded Knee," which was a finalist for the National Book Award. Treuer holds a Ph.D. in anthropology and teaches literature at the University of Southern California.
