Venki Ramakrishnan is a renowned structural biologist and Nobel laureate, recognized for his groundbreaking work on the structure of the ribosome, an essential component in the synthesis of proteins in all living cells. Born in 1952 in Chidambaram, India, he pursued his Ph.D. in Physics at Ohio University before making the transition to biology. His career has spanned prestigious institutions such as the University of Utah, Brookhaven National Laboratory, and the University of Cambridge. In 2009, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry alongside Thomas A. Steitz and Ada Yonath. Ramakrishnan has also served as President of the Royal Society.
