Campbell Black (1944-2013) was a Scottish novelist who wrote across multiple genres, including thrillers, horror, and tie-in fiction. Born in Glasgow, he is best known for his novelization of *Raiders of the Lost Ark* (1981), published under his own name while the film used "Campbell Armstrong" for his later thrillers. Black wrote over 30 novels during his career, including the acclaimed thriller series featuring detective Frank Pagan. His work was characterized by taut pacing, atmospheric tension, and psychological depth. He divided his time between Scotland and Ireland, maintaining a prolific output until his death, and remained respected for his versatility across commercial fiction genres.
