Titus Livius, known as Livy, was a renowned Roman historian born in 59 BC in Patavium, now modern-day Padua, Italy. He is best known for his monumental work, "Ab Urbe Condita," a history of Rome from its legendary foundation in 753 BC through the reign of Augustus. Livy's extensive narrative spans 142 books, although only 35 have survived in full. His engaging storytelling combined historical analysis with moral lessons, reflecting on Rome's virtues and its destiny. Living through Rome's transformation into an empire, Livy's works provide invaluable insights into Roman history, culture, and politics. He died in AD 17.
