Born and raised in New Jersey, Cassara graduated from Columbia University and earned his MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. His acclaimed debut novel, "The House of Impossible Beauties," brings to life the vibrant world of 1980s New York City, inspired by the LGBTQ+ ballroom culture. Cassara's work explores themes of identity, belonging, and resilience, drawing from both historical and fictional narratives. In addition to writing, he has taught creative writing at various institutions, contributing to the development of emerging literary voices.
