Esther Averill (1902-1992) was a beloved American children's book author and illustrator, best known for her charming series featuring the captivating Cat Club. Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Averill's passion for storytelling and art was evident early in life. After graduating from Vassar College, she co-founded the Domino Press in Paris, publishing illustrated children's books. Her most renowned creation, "Jenny Linsky," the little black cat with a red scarf, enchanted readers worldwide, sparking imaginations and empathy for animal characters. Averill's enduring legacy is celebrated for its gentle exploration of friendship, adventure, and community, continuing to delight generations of young readers.
