Atkinson’s first novel, *Behind the Scenes at the Museum*, won the Whitbread Book of the Year in 1995, establishing her as a literary force. She gained further acclaim with her *Jackson Brodie* detective series, starting with *Case Histories*. Known for her intricate plots and sharp wit, Atkinson has also won the Costa Book Award multiple times. Her works often explore themes of family, memory, and the interplay of fate and free will.
