Audre Lorde (1934-1992) was a renowned Black feminist writer, poet, and activist known for her passionate advocacy for civil rights and social justice. Born in New York City to Caribbean immigrants, Lorde's work explored themes of identity, race, gender, and sexuality. Her powerful poetry collections, such as "The Black Unicorn" and "Our Dead Behind Us," challenged societal norms and empowered marginalized voices. As a self-described "Black, lesbian, mother, warrior, poet," Lorde co-founded Kitchen Table: Women of Color Press to amplify diverse narratives. Her influential writings, including "Sister Outsider," remain pivotal in feminist theory and continue to inspire generations worldwide.
