About

Shona MacLean is a Scottish historical fiction writer best known for her Alexander Seaton series, set in seventeenth-century Scotland. Her debut novel, "The Redemption of Alexander Seaton", won the Scottish Arts Council New Writer's Award and introduced readers to her richly atmospheric portrayal of life in post-Reformation Scotland. She followed this with "A Matter of Blood" and other acclaimed entries in the series. MacLean draws on her background in history to craft meticulously researched stories filled with intrigue, moral complexity, and vivid period detail. She lives in the northeast of Scotland, the region that inspires much of her writing.
