Maria Edgeworth

Maria Edgeworth (1768–1849) was a prolific Anglo-Irish novelist and a pioneer in children's literature. She is best known for her novel "Castle Rackrent" (1800), which is often regarded as the first historical novel and the first regional novel in English. Edgeworth's works often explored themes of social and economic issues, morality, and education. She was a member of a literary family and influenced contemporaries such as Sir Walter Scott. Living through periods of significant social change, her writing reflected the complexities of Irish and English society.
