Beata Umubyeyi Mairesse

Beata Umubyeyi Mairesse is a Franco-Rwandan author and social worker whose writing is deeply shaped by her experience as a survivor of the 1994 Rwandan genocide. Born in Butare, Rwanda, she was rescued as a teenager by the Médecins Sans Frontières convoy and later settled in France. Her debut novel, "All Your Children, Scattered," a sweeping, multilingual story of memory, diaspora, and intergenerational trauma, was met with widespread critical acclaim and won the Prix Transfuge du meilleur roman africain. Writing in French, she gives powerful voice to stories of displacement, belonging, and resilience across generations and continents.
