Esphyr Slobodkina was a pioneering figure in children's literature and an influential artist born in 1908 in Siberia, Russia. Best known for her classic picture book "Caps for Sale," published in 1940, Slobodkina combined her vibrant painting style with whimsical storytelling, delighting generations of young readers. She was a founding member of the avant-garde American Abstract Artists group and creatively pushed the boundaries of art and literature by incorporating modern art elements in her work. Through her career, she authored and illustrated over 20 children's books, leaving behind a legacy of innovation and artistic expression until her passing in 2002.
