Ugrešić gained international acclaim with works like "The Museum of Unconditional Surrender" and "The Ministry of Pain," skillfully blending fiction and autobiography. A vocal critic of nationalism during the Yugoslav Wars, she faced political ostracism, leading to her self-imposed exile. Residing in Amsterdam, Ugrešić continued to write incisive essays and novels, earning numerous literary awards for her exceptional contribution to literature.
