About

Grace D. Li is a Chinese-American author whose debut novel, "Portrait of a Thief," explores questions of identity, diaspora, and art repatriation. Born and raised in Houston, Texas, she studied biology at Duke University and pursued graduate work at Stanford School of Medicine. Her writing has appeared in Guernica and The Margins, among other publications. "Portrait of a Thief," inspired by a real-life museum heist, follows five Chinese-American students who attempt to steal back Chinese art from Western museums. Li's work examines the complexities of heritage, belonging, and what it means to reclaim history.
