About

Eugippius was a fifth and sixth-century Latin Christian author and abbot, best known for his hagiographic work "Life of Saint Severinus" ("Vita Sancti Severini"), a vivid account of the missionary monk Severinus of Noricum and the turbulent decline of Roman civilization along the Danube frontier. As abbot of the monastery of Lucullanum near Naples, Eugippius also compiled an influential anthology of writings by Saint Augustine, making patristic theology more accessible to monastic communities. His works offer an invaluable window into the religious, cultural, and political upheavals of late antiquity, cementing his legacy as a key chronicler of a transformative era.
