About

Robert Henri was an influential American painter and teacher, best known for his association with the Ashcan School of American art. Born in 1865, Henri was a prominent figure in the early 20th-century art scene, advocating for realism and the depiction of everyday life in art. He studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and later in Paris. As a mentor at the Art Students League of New York, Henri inspired many notable artists with his philosophy that art should be rooted in genuine experience and emotion. His teachings were compiled posthumously in the book "The Art Spirit."
