Abhijit V. Banerjee is an esteemed economist and a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Born in Mumbai, India, he completed his undergraduate degree at Presidency College, before pursuing a Ph.D. from Harvard University. Renowned for his work in development economics, Banerjee co-founded the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL), which focuses on alleviating global poverty through evidence-based research. In 2019, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences, alongside Esther Duflo and Michael Kremer, for their pioneering contributions to understanding and reducing poverty. Abhijit is also an accomplished author and continues to influence economic policy worldwide.
