Richmal Crompton (1890–1969) was a celebrated English author best known for her "William" series, a beloved collection of children's books featuring the mischievous schoolboy William Brown. Born in Bury, Lancashire, Crompton was educated at Royal Holloway College and embarked on a teaching career before dedicating herself entirely to writing. Her first "William" book was published in 1922, earning her enduring popularity.
