Michelle Porter is a Canadian author and journalist of Métis heritage whose work explores identity, family, and the enduring power of storytelling. Her debut novel, "A Grandmother Begins the Story," weaves together Métis history, mythology, and personal narrative in a rich, multi-generational tapestry. Drawing deeply from her Indigenous roots, Porter crafts prose that is both lyrical and grounded, giving voice to ancestors and communities whose stories have long been overlooked. In addition to her fiction, she works as a journalist and academic, championing Indigenous perspectives in Canadian literature. She is based in Newfoundland, Canada.
