Sarah Kane

About

Sarah Kane was a groundbreaking British playwright whose visceral, unflinching work revolutionized contemporary theatre in the 1990s. Her debut play, "Blasted" (1995), shocked audiences with its brutal depiction of violence and war, establishing her as a fearless voice in dramatic literature. Kane's subsequent works, including "Phaedra's Love" and "Cleansed," continued to explore themes of trauma, desire, and human suffering with raw intensity. Her final play, "4.48 Psychosis," a fragmented meditation on depression and mental illness, premiered posthumously in 2000. Kane died by suicide in 1999 at age 28, leaving behind a powerful theatrical legacy.
