About

Peter Chrysologus was a fifth-century Latin theologian and Doctor of the Church, celebrated for his eloquent preaching and theological insight. Born in Imola, Italy, around 380 AD, he served as Archbishop of Ravenna from approximately 433 AD until his death in 450 AD. His surname, Chrysologus — meaning "golden-worded" — reflects the extraordinary power and clarity of his sermons. His collected homilies, preserved in "Sermones," offer profound reflections on Scripture, the Incarnation, and Christian living. Revered as a saint in both the Catholic and Eastern Orthodox traditions, he was declared a Doctor of the Church by Pope Benedict XIII in 1729.
