Laurens van der Post (1906–1996) was a South African author, soldier, and explorer renowned for his literary works and contributions to understanding indigenous cultures. A prolific writer, van der Post authored numerous books, including "The Lost World of the Kalahari" and "The Seed and the Sower," later adapted into the film "Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence."
