About

Abbas Nazari is an Afghan-Australian author and public servant. He was born in Afghanistan and, as an infant in 2001, was rescued by the Norwegian freighter MV Tampa along with his family as they fled the Taliban regime. The ensuing political crisis became known as the Tampa affair, a defining moment in Australian immigration policy. Nazari grew up in Australia and works as a policy adviser in the Australian Public Service. His memoir ‟After the Tampa" chronicles his family's harrowing journey to Australia and his experience growing up as a refugee in a country deeply divided over his arrival.
