In 1959, she, along with her husband Dr. Reginald Hamlin, co-founded the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital, the first of its kind dedicated to treating women afflicted by this devastating childbirth injury. Dr. Hamlin's dedication earned her global recognition, including multiple humanitarian awards and nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize.
