Catherine Hamlin

Catherine Hamlin was an Australian obstetrician and gynecologist renowned for her pioneering work in treating obstetric fistula in Ethiopia. In 1959, she, along with her husband Dr. Reginald Hamlin, co-founded the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital, the first of its kind dedicated to treating women afflicted by this devastating childbirth injury. Over her lifetime, she helped restore dignity and hope to over 60,000 women. Dr. Hamlin's dedication earned her global recognition, including multiple humanitarian awards and nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize. Her enduring legacy continues through the Hamlin Fistula Foundation, providing healthcare and education in maternal child health.
