Manly Wade Wellman (1903–1986) was a prolific American author known for his contributions to science fiction, fantasy, and horror genres. Born in Angola to American missionary parents, he later moved to the United States, where he developed a deep appreciation for Appalachian folklore and history, themes that permeate much of his work. Wellman's best-known creations include the Silver John series, featuring a wandering folk singer and his guitar, and his stories for "Weird Tales." With a distinctive voice and an ability to blend the supernatural with regional folklore, Wellman earned critical acclaim and several prestigious awards, including the World Fantasy Award.
