Israel Joshua Singer was a prominent Yiddish author, born on November 30, 1893, in Biłgoraj, Poland. As the older brother of Nobel Laureate Isaac Bashevis Singer, he made significant contributions to Jewish literature. Starting his career as a journalist, he later became known for his novels, which vividly depicted Jewish life in Eastern Europe. His notable works include "The Brothers Ashkenazi" and "The Family Carnovsky," which explore themes of identity, family, and the socio-political changes of the 20th century. Singer emigrated to the United States in 1933, where he continued writing until his death in 1944.
