About

Gholam-Hossein Sa'edi was an influential Iranian writer, playwright, and psychiatrist who combined his medical expertise with literary artistry to create powerful social critiques. Writing under the pen name Gohar Murad, he authored groundbreaking works including "Mourners of Bayal" (عزاداران بیل), "Fear and Trembling" (ترس و لرز), and "The Ragged" (چوب‌به‌دست‌های وَرَزیل). His stories depicted the struggles of Iran's marginalized communities with unflinching realism and psychological depth. A prominent voice of Iranian literature in the 20th century, Sa'edi's work was often censored for its critical examination of social injustice. He died in exile in Paris in 1985, leaving behind a legacy that continues to resonate.
