Oliver Goldsmith

Oliver Goldsmith was an Anglo-Irish writer, poet, and playwright who became one of the most beloved literary figures of the 18th century. Born in Ireland around 1728, he studied medicine but turned to writing, producing works that combined humor, sentiment, and keen social observation. His novel "The Vicar of Wakefield" remains a classic of English literature, while his comedy "She Stoops to Conquer" continues to delight audiences with its wit and charm. Goldsmith also wrote the celebrated poem "The Deserted Village." Despite his literary success, he struggled with debt throughout his life and died in London in 1774.
