Arthur Conan Doyle was a Scottish writer and physician born on May 22, 1859, in Edinburgh. He is best known for creating the iconic detective Sherlock Holmes, a character that revolutionized the mystery genre. Doyle's Sherlock Holmes books, starting with "A Study in Scarlet" in 1887, gained immense popularity, establishing him as a literary giant. Beyond detective stories, his works spanned science fiction, historical novels, and plays. Educated at the University of Edinburgh, he practiced medicine before turning to writing full-time. Doyle was also deeply interested in the spiritualist movement. He passed away on July 7, 1930, leaving a lasting literary legacy.
