Marina Nemat

Marina Nemat, an Iranian-Canadian author, is best known for her bestselling memoir, "Prisoner of Tehran," which recounts her harrowing experiences as a political prisoner in Iran during the 1980s. Born in Tehran in 1965, Nemat was arrested at age sixteen for speaking out against the Iranian government. She spent more than two years in the notorious Evin Prison, where she endured torture and faced execution. After her release, she immigrated to Canada in 1991. Nemat has published several books and frequently lectures about human rights, drawing on her personal experiences to advocate for freedom and justice worldwide.
