Bao Phi is a Vietnamese American poet and children's book author born in 1975. He is best known for his acclaimed picture book *A Different Pond* (2017), illustrated by Thi Bui, which won the Caldecott Honor, Charlotte Zolotow Award, and was named a Coretta Scott King Illustrator Honor Book. The story draws from his childhood experiences as a refugee, exploring themes of immigration, family, memory, and intergenerational connection. Phi's work centers Vietnamese American perspectives and working-class experiences.
