Hans Selye (1907–1982) was a pioneering endocrinologist known for his groundbreaking research on the effects of stress on the human body. Born in Vienna, Austria-Hungary, Selye studied at the German University in Prague, earning his medical degree in 1929. He later conducted significant research at McGill University in Canada and the Université de Montréal, where he introduced the concept of the General Adaptation Syndrome, describing the body's physiological response to stress. Selye published over 1700 research papers and 39 books, including "The Stress of Life," which popularized his findings and established him as a key figure in stress research.
