Frantz Fanon

About

Frantz Fanon (1925-1961) was a Martinique-born philosopher, psychiatrist, and revolutionary writer whose work has deeply influenced post-colonial studies, critical theory, and Marxism. Educated in France, Fanon's early experiences of racial discrimination shaped his perspectives, which he articulated in seminal works like "Black Skin, White Masks" and "The Wretched of the Earth." As a psychiatrist, he worked in Algeria during the liberation struggle against French colonial rule, where he became an outspoken advocate for decolonization and the mental health impacts of colonization. Fanon's writings emphasize the psychopathology of colonization and the necessity of violent revolution for true liberation, leaving a lasting intellectual legacy.
