Born on July 26, 1911, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Hodges developed a passion for literature early on. She earned her degree in Library Sciences from Carnegie Tech and went on to craft beautifully illustrated retellings of beloved legends and fairy tales. Her book "Saint George and the Dragon," illustrated by Trina Schart Hyman, won the Caldecott Medal in 1985, earning her international acclaim. Hodges' stories continue to captivate readers, blending timeless narratives with imaginative storytelling until her passing in 2005.
