José Rizal

José Rizal (1861–1896) was a Filipino nationalist, writer, and polymath widely regarded as the greatest hero of the Philippines. A brilliant intellect fluent in multiple languages, Rizal studied medicine and philosophy across Europe while channeling his passion for justice into literature. His landmark novels "Noli Me Tángere" and "El Filibusterismo" exposed the brutal realities of Spanish colonial rule in the Philippines, igniting a revolutionary spirit among his people. Beyond writing, he excelled as a sculptor, painter, and ophthalmologist. Executed by Spanish colonial authorities at just 35, Rizal remains an enduring symbol of courage, patriotism, and intellectual resistance.
