Desmond Tutu was a renowned South African Anglican bishop and social rights activist, born on October 7, 1931. Celebrated for his tireless efforts in the anti-apartheid movement, Tutu became the first black Archbishop of Cape Town and bishop of the Church of the Province of Southern Africa (now the Anglican Church of Southern Africa). He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1984 for his role in the struggle against apartheid. Tutu was also a leading advocate for human rights and reconciliation, chairing the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. An author of numerous books, his works focus on peace, forgiveness, and equality.
