Dinaw Mengestu

Dinaw Mengestu is an Ethiopian-American novelist and journalist known for his poignant exploration of themes like identity, migration, and belonging. Born in Addis Ababa in 1978, Mengestu immigrated to the United States at a young age, experiences that deeply influence his storytelling. He is a graduate of Georgetown University and earned his MFA from Columbia University. Mengestu's debut novel, "The Beautiful Things That Heaven Bears," garnered critical acclaim, earning him the Guardian First Book Award. His work has appeared in esteemed publications such as The New Yorker and Harper's Magazine. In 2012, Mengestu was named a MacArthur Fellow, celebrating his contributions to literature.
