Yukio Mishima, born Kimitake Hiraoka on January 14, 1925, in Tokyo, Japan, was a prolific and highly influential Japanese author, playwright, and nationalist. Known for his vivid, often controversial narratives, Mishima's work explores themes of beauty, death, and the struggle for identity in post-war Japan. He wrote over 30 novels, numerous short stories, essays, and plays, with notable works including "The Temple of the Golden Pavilion" and "Confessions of a Mask." Mishima founded the Tatenokai, a private militia, to rekindle Japan's traditional values. On November 25, 1970, Mishima committed ritual suicide, leaving behind a complex and enduring literary legacy.
