W. Somerset Maugham (1874–1965) was a prolific British author and playwright, renowned for his keen insights into human nature and society. Born in Paris, he was orphaned at a young age and raised by an uncle. He studied medicine, which deeply influenced his writing. Maugham's first novel, "Liza of Lambeth" (1897), marked the beginning of his successful literary career. His masterpiece, "Of Human Bondage" (1915), is a semi-autobiographical exploration of love and aspiration. Maugham's works often explore the complexities of relationships and morality. He traveled extensively, infusing his stories with rich, exotic settings and diverse characters.
