Maria Reva is a Ukrainian-Canadian writer known for her darkly comic fiction exploring Soviet and post-Soviet life. Her debut short story collection, "Good Citizens Need Not Fear," was published in 2020 to critical acclaim, winning the Amazon Canada First Novel Award and earning spots on numerous best-of-year lists. The collection follows residents of a crumbling Ukrainian apartment building through absurdist, interconnected stories. Reva's work has appeared in The Atlantic, The Best American Short Stories, and elsewhere. She holds an MFA from the University of British Columbia and has received fellowships from the Michener Center for Writers and MacDowell Colony.
