Madeleine K. Albright was an American diplomat and political scientist who made history as the first woman to serve as United States Secretary of State under President Bill Clinton from 1997 to 2001. Born in Czechoslovakia, she fled with her family from Nazi and Communist regimes before immigrating to the United States. A Georgetown University professor and chair of the National Democratic Institute, Albright was known for her sharp intellect and advocacy for democracy and human rights. Her books include the bestselling memoir "Madam Secretary" and "Fascism: A Warning," which examines the resurgence of authoritarianism worldwide. She passed away in 2022.
