Bernal Díaz del Castillo

Bernal Díaz del Castillo (1492–1584) was a Spanish conquistador and chronicler, best known for his firsthand account of the Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire. Born in Medina del Campo, Spain, Díaz del Castillo joined an expedition to the New World as a young man, seeking fortune and adventure. He served under Hernán Cortés in the campaign against the Aztecs, witnessing pivotal events such as the fall of Tenochtitlán. In his later years, he documented these experiences in "The True History of the Conquest of New Spain," providing a vital, detailed perspective on the era.
