About

Caesarius of Arles (c. 470–542) was a Gallic bishop, theologian, and prolific preacher whose influence shaped early medieval Christianity in the West. Born near Chalon-sur-Saône, he became Archbishop of Arles in 502, using his position to champion monastic reform, clerical discipline, and accessible religious education for laypeople. He presided over the Council of Orange in 529, which addressed the theology of grace and free will. His sermons, notable for their clarity and pastoral warmth, are collected in "Fathers of the Church," offering an invaluable window into sixth-century ecclesiastical life and early Christian homiletic tradition.
