Joseph Smith Jr.

About

Joseph Smith Jr. (1805-1844) was an American religious leader and founder of the Latter Day Saint movement, better known as Mormonism. Born in Sharon, Vermont, he published the Book of Mormon in 1830, which he claimed was a translation of ancient golden plates revealed to him by an angel named Moroni. Smith established the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, guiding its early development and growth despite considerable opposition. His teachings and leadership left a profound impact on his followers, who regarded him as a prophet. Smith's life was cut short when he was assassinated by a mob in Carthage, Illinois.
