Jackie Kay is a celebrated Scottish poet, novelist, and playwright, born to a Nigerian father and Scottish mother. Her acclaimed work often explores themes of identity, race, and family. Kay's notable works include the poetry collection "The Adoption Papers," for which she won the Scottish Arts Council Book Award, and her novel "Trumpet," inspired by the life of transgender musician Billy Tipton. She served as the Makar, or National Poet of Scotland, from 2016 to 2021. Kay's evocative voice and poignant narratives continue to resonate deeply with a diverse audience, making her a significant figure in contemporary literature.
