Chi Ta-wei

Chi Ta-wei is a Taiwanese author, scholar, and pioneer of queer and speculative fiction in Chinese-language literature. Best known for his landmark novella "The Membranes" (published in Chinese as "Membrana"), he has been instrumental in bringing queer science fiction to mainstream Taiwanese readership since the 1990s. His writing blends cyberpunk aesthetics with explorations of identity, embodiment, and desire. Beyond fiction, Chi is an academic whose research focuses on queer theory and the history of LGBT movements in Taiwan. His work has gained international recognition through translation, cementing his reputation as a visionary voice in contemporary speculative literature.
