Wes Ely

Wes Ely is a critically acclaimed physician, researcher, and author best known for his memoir "Every Deep-Drawn Breath." A professor of medicine at Vanderbilt University, he is a leading expert in critical care and a pioneer in research on ICU delirium and long-term patient recovery. Through decades of bedside experience, Ely has transformed how doctors understand and treat the invisible wounds left by intensive care. His writing brings a rare humanity to medicine, weaving together science, compassion, and personal reflection. He is also co-founder of the Critical Illness, Brain Dysfunction, and Survivorship (CIBS) Center at Vanderbilt.
